It is with humility and gratitude that I offer this Indigenous Peoples and Land Acknowledgement.

The land upon which I live, learn, and mother is the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee, and Neutral peoples, whose primary languages are Anishinaabemowin and Odawa. These territories connect to the Dish with One Spoon wampum, an agreement between myriad nations to peacefully care for the land and resources encircled by the Great Lakes. I thank the First Peoples for their ongoing stewardship of the land and water.

I acknowledge my status as a newcomer to Turtle Island and a treaty person; the Upper Canada Treaties signed concerning this land include Treaty # 29, 1827, and Treaty #45 1/2, 1836. With deep sorrow, I decry the historical and ongoing injustices faced by the First Peoples in Canada. I regret that the community in which I live is the explicit result of settler colonialism.

I acknowledge my privilege in living here, and I embrace my role in healing the land, water, and community around me. As a treaty person, I must pursue knowledge of the true history of my community, and build respectful connections with First Nation, Métis, and Inuit people.
